Opinionated Vite starter template. React based with tailwind, and other lovely stuff. I'm using it to experiment with Netlify Functions.

Summary

Vitamin is an opinionated Vite starter template that bundles a modern front-end stack — Vite 6, React 19, TypeScript 5, Tailwind CSS v4, Biome, Vitest, and Playwright — into a ready-to-clone project scaffold. It targets engineers who want a working baseline for new React/TypeScript single-page applications without having to wire up tooling, formatting, and testing from scratch.

What it is useful for

Vitamin is useful when you want to start a new React/TypeScript project and skip the time spent configuring a build pipeline, formatter, linter, and test runner together. The template is built around pnpm scripts that cover the common dev workflow:

  • Development and production builds: pnpm dev, pnpm build, and pnpm preview, with production output going to the dist folder.
  • Testing: pnpm test for unit and integration tests on changed files, pnpm test:ci for the full Vitest run, and pnpm test:e2e / pnpm test:e2e:ci for Playwright end-to-end tests.
  • Code quality: pnpm format runs Biome Formatter and pnpm lint runs TypeScript plus Biome; pnpm validate combines lint, full unit tests, and headless e2e tests.

Because the template is opinionated, it also serves as a reference for combining Vite, Tailwind v4, Biome V2, Vitest 3, Testing Library 16, and Playwright 1.52 in one project, including absolute imports through vite-tsconfig-paths. Engineers who already have a preferred setup but want to see one example of these tools wired together can read the configuration files directly.

How engineers can use it

The README documents two ways to start a new project from Vitamin:

  1. Generate a copy through the GitHub template page.
  2. Clone it locally with an empty git history using npx degit wtchnm/Vitamin#main my-app.

After cloning, the documented setup is pnpm install, followed by pnpm dev to launch the development server. The repository is licensed under MIT, and the previous version is kept on a v1 branch for teams that need an older stack.

Documented limitations to be aware of: Vitamin is a starter template, not a library, so there are no APIs to consume — its value is the project structure and tooling choices it ships with. The README lists pnpm as the package manager, so engineers who prefer npm or yarn will need to adapt the scripts themselves. For anything beyond what the README covers, refer to the linked documentation for each tool.
