Open repository ↗AI skills for human-sounding copy and ethical hooks, with a zero-dependency slop scanner
Summary
hook-everything provides 13 skills for helping AI assistants write copy that sounds human, create hooks without inflated claims, and review work for ethical and quality problems. Alongside those skills is a zero-dependency Python scanner that scores a draft from 0 to 100 and identifies text worth rewriting.
For engineers, this provides both a reusable workflow for product writing and a local scanner that can run in CI.
What it is useful for
The repository fits common engineering tasks that involve more than code: release notes, product announcements, onboarding flows, landing pages, and outreach copy.
The README defines a “Lite Lane” for short edits. For a release note, email, or headline, it recommends running writing-hooks, anti-slop, self-review, and value-check in that order. Broader work adds skills for understanding the audience, establishing trust, finding competitor gaps, and shaping visual or product hooks. For example, a landing-page workflow includes market-intelligence and audience-calibration before the final review skills.
The skills are instructions installed into an assistant’s workspace. The scanner is independent of those instructions, so engineers can also check a file directly. Its --hidden option reports invisible Unicode, including zero-width characters and unusual spaces. The --strip-markdown option is intended for documents that quote banned phrases deliberately.
There are important limits. The README describes the 15-point threshold as a heuristic for clusters of AI and marketing tropes, not proof of who wrote a text. It also says the scanner cannot detect or remove Anthropic’s secret-key watermark because no local tool can verify it. Unusual spaces can come from ordinary copy-paste rather than AI generation.
How engineers can use it
For Claude Code, the documented plugin installation is:
/plugin marketplace add Vumb-VibeCoder/hook-everything
/plugin install hook-everything@hook-everything
The README also documents manual installation by cloning the repository and copying skills/ and tools/ into .claude/skills/ and .claude/tools/. For Cursor, Windsurf, Codex, or other agents, it says to copy AGENTS.md into the project root—or append it to .cursorrules or CLAUDE.md—and keep skills/ and tools/ in the workspace.
The scanner requires Python 3.10+ and no other dependencies:
python3 tools/slop_scan.py draft.txt --fix-hints
python3 tools/slop_scan.py README.md --max-score 15
The first command produces a score and rewrite hints. The second fails when the score exceeds the documented threshold, making it suitable for a repository check. A typical assistant request is: “Rewrite this product announcement so it sounds human, then check it with the scanner.”
Before contributing, the README asks contributors to run:
python3 tools/slop_scan.py --selftest
python3 -m unittest discover -s tests
