Summary

awesome-gamedev-agent-skills provides 77 portable SKILL.md playbooks for AI coding agents working on games. A router detects the project’s engine, interprets the requested task, and loads the relevant engine, discipline, genre, and workflow guidance before code is written.

What it is useful for

The collection covers 12 engines, including Godot, Unity, Unreal, Ebitengine, Phaser, PixiJS, three.js, Bevy, pygame, LÖVE, Defold, and Roblox. It is useful when an engineer wants game-specific assistance rather than general programming guidance: engine APIs, input handling, physics, procedural generation, save systems, game feel, asset production, publishing, and genre-specific architecture.

For example, asking to “add a double jump to my Godot player” selects godot-2d-movement and platformer. An Unity inventory request can combine unity-scriptableobjects, rpg, and save-systems, while a procedural Godot roguelike can bring in tilemaps, procedural generation, and roguelike patterns. The asset workflow is also included for tasks such as producing cohesive pixel-art characters, enemies, and tiles.

Engine routing is deliberately exclusive: the router selects exactly one engine, then adds relevant disciplines, genres, and workflows. It relies on project fingerprints such as project.godot or *.uproject; if the engine cannot be identified, it asks rather than guessing. Skills are pinned to documented engine baselines—including Godot 4.7, Unity 6.3 LTS, and Unreal 5.8—so engineers working with other versions should check docs/VERSION-SUPPORT.md.

How engineers can use it

Install the router and skills with the documented CLI command:

npx skills add gamedev-skills/awesome-gamedev-agent-skills

The CLI requires Node.js 22.20 or later. Use --list to preview the installation, -g for every project, or -a <agent> to target a specific tool.

Claude Code users can instead install the repository as a plugin marketplace:

claude plugin marketplace add gamedev-skills/awesome-gamedev-agent-skills
claude plugin install gamedev@awesome-gamedev-agent-skills

Once installed, work from the game project and describe the outcome in plain language—for example, “build a 2D puzzle in Go with Ebitengine,” “make an inventory for my Unity RPG,” or “publish my game on itch with butler.” There is no need to name skills manually. Engineers who prefer manual installation can follow docs/INSTALLATION.md; tool-specific paths, triggers, and metadata differences are listed in docs/COMPATIBILITY.md.

For contributors, the README documents one validation command:

python scripts/validate-skills.py
