Turn Claude Code into a full game dev studio — 49 AI agents, 72 workflow skills, and a complete coordination system mirroring real studio hierarchy

Summary

Claude Code Game Studios is a Shell-based template for Claude Code that organizes game development around 49 role-specific agents, slash-command skills, hooks, path-scoped rules, and document templates. The README lists 74 skills and describes a project template to clone and customize, not a finished game or an autonomous coding service.

What it is useful for

Use this repository when a solo developer or team wants Claude Code to follow a defined game-production process rather than work as an unstructured chat assistant. Its three-tier hierarchy separates directors, department leads, and specialists, while hooks and path-scoped rules check files, commits, pushes, assets, sessions, and agent artifacts.

It supports Godot 4, Unity, and Unreal Engine 5 with engine-specific agent sets. Commands cover concrete tasks such as /brainstorm, /design-system, /create-stories, /dev-story, /story-done, /qa-plan, /code-review, and /release-checklist. Together, these provide a path from design and story planning through implementation, QA, and release preparation.

Process overhead is a documented limitation. In the README’s comparison, a standard-rigor build produced 30 documents in 58 minutes but ranked last in blind review and human playtest; the authors note that the additional documents provided traceability rather than a better game. For that reason, minimal is the default and should be raised only as the project needs it.

The workflow is also collaborative rather than autonomous: agents ask questions, present options, draft work, and wait for approval. No example game is included because the repository is intended to become the starting point for a new project. Player-visible changes must be verified by launching the game and retaining a screenshot, even in minimal mode.

How engineers can use it

Prerequisites are Git, Claude Code, Python 3, and Bash; jq is recommended for hook validation. The README warns that without Python, settings silently fall back to their defaults, while missing optional tools can disable validation.

Clone and open the project at its root:

git clone https://github.com/Donchitos/Claude-Code-Game-Studios.git my-game
cd my-game
claude

Starting Claude Code in src/ skips hooks, deny rules, and ask-first permission mode. Run /start to identify the project stage, or use /project-stage-detect for existing work and /setup-engine godot 4.7 for a Godot project.

project.yaml controls engine choice, conventions, and process weight. Use /settings to inspect effective configuration or, for example, run /settings modes.rigor=full. Personal overrides can be written to project.local.yaml with /settings --local modes.review_mode=solo.

The README reports primary development on Windows 10 with Git Bash and testing on macOS and Linux. Desktop notifications are currently Windows-only.
