Skills for semi-autonomous 3D asset creation in Blender with Codex and Claude Code: visual self-review, iterative fixes, and verified exports

Summary

Blender Asset Studio is a set of skills for semi-autonomous, editable 3D asset creation in Blender through Blender MCP. It provides separate Codex and Claude Code adaptations covering reference review, iterative repairs, geometry diagnostics, and verification of actual exports; the Codex package (version 1.3.1) also includes an Imagegen workflow and diagnostic scripts.

What it is useful for

Engineers can use this repository when a task involves creating or refining Blender assets from attached visual references. The workflow starts with task clarification, reference intake, and selection of a visual direction rather than immediately generating a final model.

A practical example is creating an asset from reference images: first produce a representative pilot, compare both the whole object and corresponding regions with the target, then apply measurable repairs and inspect fresh results. The skills also check visibility, support and contact, unwanted interpenetration, and working clearance.

The repository is useful when a deliverable needs more than a visually plausible render. Its process keeps three concerns separate: artistic acceptance, technical checks on the source asset, and verification of the exported result. This is particularly relevant for game, simulation, visualization, or product workflows where Blender assets must remain editable and basic geometry problems need to be identified.

How engineers can use it

Blender and Blender MCP must be installed and configured in the chosen agent first. The repository does not install Blender, the MCP server, or an image generator.

Clone the repository:

git clone https://github.com/new-experement/blender-asset-studio.git
cd blender-asset-studio

Install the Codex adaptation, including its supporting directories:

mkdir -p ~/.codex/skills
cp -R codex/blender-asset-studio ~/.codex/skills/

If CODEX_HOME is customized, install it into that directory’s skills directory instead. For Claude Code:

mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
cp -R claude-code/blender-asset-studio ~/.claude/skills/

Start with a concrete request such as:

$blender-asset-studio Create a model from the attached references.

Claude Code uses the slash form:

/blender-asset-studio Create a model from the attached references.

The README documents optional Codex tests, which require Pillow and a path to Blender:

cd codex/blender-asset-studio
python3 scripts/test_helpers.py --blender /path/to/blender
python3 scripts/test_geometry_audit.py --blender /path/to/blender
python3 scripts/test_intersections.py --blender /path/to/blender

AAA quality is not guaranteed. Diagnostics do not automatically repair models, contact does not prove freedom from penetration, sampling may miss collisions, and one saved frame cannot verify an entire motion. If the repair budget is exhausted, the workflow preserves the best candidate and records unresolved defects.
