Open repository ↗Open-source Grok Bot alternative. Choose your own model and sandbox
Summary
Rakazo is an open-source, self-hosted AI agent that lets you run persistent "teammate" bots on your own infrastructure, framed as an alternative to Grok Bot and similar hosted assistants. It ships as a web app, an Electron desktop client, and an Expo-based mobile app (iPhone and Android), with the option to bring your own model provider and sandbox runtime. The project is written in TypeScript with a React 19 / Vite / Tailwind frontend, a PostgreSQL backend with Prisma, and supports both Docker-based local execution and remote computer providers.
What it is useful for
Rakazo is useful when you want an AI assistant that stays under your control rather than living behind someone else's account. Each bot has its own conversation history, memory, and routines, and bots can delegate to peer bots or short-lived subagents. Useful concrete capabilities documented in the README include browser, terminal, file, and graphical desktop access, voice mode (with keys for ElevenLabs, OpenAI, Cartesia, or Fish Audio), and integration with third-party apps via Composio, Pipedream Connect, MCP, or OpenAPI sources. The "computer" abstraction is split into shared Team Computers and isolated Private computers, with pluggable sandbox providers such as Docker, E2B, Daytona, CreateOS, Box, and Railway, so the same bot interface works whether the code runs locally in a container or in a remote cloud sandbox.
How engineers can use it
For trying it out without cloning, the README documents a Docker-only path: install Docker Engine and the Compose plugin, then run the published-image installer, which generates .env with random secrets and starts the stack. After visiting http://127.0.0.1:5173 you create an account and connect a model. The default sandbox is local Docker; you can switch to a remote provider by setting SANDBOX_PROVIDER (for example, e2b, daytona, createos, box, or railway) with the matching API key.
For contributing or running from source, you need Node.js 22.22.2+ in the 22.x line (or 24.x / 26+), pnpm 9, and Docker; Node 23.x and 25.x are explicitly unsupported. The repo's standard sequence is pnpm install, pnpm db:generate, pnpm db:migrate, pnpm sandbox:build, then pnpm dev, after copying .env.example to .env and filling in POSTGRES_PASSWORD, BETTER_AUTH_SECRET, ENCRYPTION_KEY, and SCREEN_PROXY_SECRET.
Documented limitations to plan for: Rakazo is marked in beta; Treg integration is usage-metered and requires a written agreement for hosted resale; Railway sandboxes only support bearer auth and reject workspace exports above 64 MiB; the Russian marketing homepage and native Electron setup flow are listed as outstanding follow-up work. Full deployment, backup, and upgrade details live in docs/self-host.md.
