Summary
Blender Agent Skills packages 20 Blender 5.2 production workflows as Agent Skills that AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) can load on demand. Each skill encodes a Blender procedure (modeling, UVs, PBR, baking, rigging, animation, export, QA) so the assistant drives Blender through scripts rather than just describing steps in chat. The repo ships an installer and 43 headless Blender tests that run real scripts against Blender.
What it is useful for
The skills target parts of a Blender pipeline that engineers already tend to script: retopology and UVs, PBR material setup, normal/AO/curvature baking, Rigify plus game skeletons, NLA and mocap animation, asset optimization with LODs and draw call budgets, and export pipelines for Unreal, Unity, Roblox, Godot, the web, and USD. A blender-asset-qa skill checks for z-fighting, floating parts, bad normals, and bad weights, and blender-pipeline-automation covers batch jobs and file conversion.
It is useful for game developers who need a repeatable Blender-to-engine export path, and for technical artists or pipeline engineers who want an AI assistant to actually run bpy against a real Blender session. The README describes an optional Blender MCP server, which lets an agent work in an artist's open Blender; without one, agents run Blender in the background. The documented requirement is Blender 5.2 LTS or newer, so it will not work cleanly on older Blender installs.
How engineers can use it
The README documents two install paths. For Claude Code, use the plugin commands:
/plugin marketplace add EL4CTEO/blender-skills
/plugin install blender-agent-skills@blender-agent-skills
For other agents, clone and run the bundled installer:
git clone https://github.com/EL4CTEO/blender-skills
./blender-skills/install/install.sh # macOS / Linux
.\blender-skills\install\install.ps1 # Windows
The default install writes to ~/.claude/skills and ~/.agents/skills (read by Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, Copilot, and Cursor). Flags include --agent claude|codex|opencode|gemini|copilot|cursor|all, --project DIR for a project-local install, and --uninstall.
To validate changes locally:
python tools/validate_skills.py # spec + token budget checks
python tools/run_tests.py # 43 headless Blender tests (BLENDER_EXE to override)
A reasonable first task is blender-core, the README's entry skill, then prompting with concrete asks like producing a game-ready crate for Unreal with baked normals and LODs, or running QA on a model before a Roblox export. Detailed prompts, API rules, and full per-skill descriptions live in the README and the skill files themselves.
