AI video skill for Claude Code & Codex — cinematic product videos with Remotion: 152 shot recipe cards, 209 motion previews, a production-ready template

Summary

video-shotcraft is a Claude Code and Codex skill, written in TypeScript, that lets an AI agent turn a product's own screenshots and copy into a finished promotional video. Every frame is drawn by Remotion code from the user's assets rather than generated by a model, so the output is sharp, on-brand and editable. The skill ships with 124 shot recipe cards (150 shots) covering camera moves, typography, UI entrances, data emphasis and outros, plus a library of audio assets and a browser-based "Motion Workbench" for post-delivery editing.

What it is useful for

This is useful when a developer or product team needs a launch film, feature spotlight or social promo but does not want to hand-keyframe Remotion themselves. The agent captures live pages, selects shots from the categorised recipe library (examples documented in the README include text-as-mask, card-flock-tumble, exploded-view, palette-theme-ripple and spotlight-sweep), beat-syncs the cuts, layers 149 SFX across 16 categories plus 5 BGM options, and writes a full Remotion project you can keep editing. The README lists the documented outputs as a 1920×1080 / 30 fps h264 MP4, the underlying Remotion sources, an optional JianYing (CapCut CN) project draft, and optional publishing via Upload-Post.

How engineers can use it

The README documents three install paths: ask the agent to install the skill by URL (Install this skill for me: https://github.com/Vincentwei1021/video-shotcraft), run npx skills add Vincentwei1021/video-shotcraft, or clone the repo and symlink it into ~/.claude/skills/video-shotcraft for Claude Code or ~/.codex/skills/video-shotcraft for Codex. An AtomGit mirror is listed for users in mainland China. After installation, prompts such as Make a launch film for this repo with the Ink Press template. drive the agent. For later editing the README points to node workbench/scripts/open.mjs <project> (browser workbench) and to SKILL.md, references/pipeline.md and references/aesthetic-rules.md for the production rules.

Requirements the README calls out: Node.js and npm for Remotion rendering, ffmpeg / ffprobe for frame QA, uv only for the one-off BGM beat script, and puppeteer (installed on demand by the capture script). The README also explicitly documents three headless-Linux pitfalls: a --concurrency cap that forces --concurrency=1, Chrome's removal of old headless mode so a chrome-headless-shell binary is needed, and a blocked remotion.media CDN in some regions that requires --browser-executable=<path>. Licensing is Apache-2.0 for the project itself, but Remotion carries its own licence — free for individuals and small teams, paid for larger companies — and each audio file has its own licence under assets/audio/ATTRIBUTION.md.
