Summary
SessionDeck is a VS Code and Cursor extension that lists every Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor Agent session on a machine in one sidebar tree, grouped by project, with a status icon per row. A red bell marks a session that is blocked on user approval or input, and clicking the row focuses its tab or terminal. Status is inferred from transcripts and process state on disk, not reported by the agents.
What it is useful for
It targets engineers running several coding agents at once who lose track of which one stopped to ask something. Instead of tab-hopping, the tree shows a green spinner for working, purple for subagents running, yellow bell-dot for finished-but-unread, blue check for read, and red bell for blocked. Ctrl+Alt+] (Cmd+Alt+] on macOS) jumps to the next blocked session, oldest first.
It is also useful for multi-host setups. With the SessionDeck Bridge companion on the local desktop, sessions on WSL, Remote-SSH, and dev containers show up in the same tree, and SessionDeck: Open as Floating Window puts a small OS-level view on a second monitor. Show Activity Tree expands a session into its workflows, subagents, and tasks.
Documented limits: macOS discovery is restricted to known config homes because /proc is missing; native Windows gets no hooks, no approval alerts, and no gentle stop; Codex and Cursor agents never write a "waiting" state to disk, so their rows never show a red bell. Status can lag or misread edge cases, and the README warns the indicator will dim with a "Format drift suspected" note when underlying file formats change.
How engineers can use it
Install the main extension on the side where sessions live:
code --install-extension len5ky.sessiondeck
# or for Cursor:
cursor --install-extension len5ky.sessiondeck
For cross-host visibility, install the bridge on the local desktop:
code --install-extension len5ky.sessiondeck-bridge
Open the Sessions view via the compass icon in the activity bar. Without hooks the tree refreshes on a three-second poll, but a session stuck on a permission prompt just looks busy, so run SessionDeck: Install Hooks from the command palette once per host to enable instant updates and approval alerts; the README includes a shell snippet with the equivalent python3 script for scripted setup. If the tree is emptier than expected, SessionDeck: Run Diagnostics prints one line per subsystem with a fix and changes nothing.
The README is the source of truth for settings like sessionDeck.moveTarget, sessionDeck.activityTree, and the offline license flow: 3 free sessions after a 3-day unlimited trial.
