Summary
brand-identity is a Claude Code skill that designs a brand identity as one connected system, producing logo, typography, and colour palette from a single brief rather than as separate choices. Each run yields up to four identity sets with measurements including WCAG 2 and APCA contrast, colour-blindness simulation, glyph coverage, and font licences, with gates that block a set from passing until it meets them. The chosen set is delivered as a brand guidelines kit: an 8-page PDF (or 13-page with --full), SVG and PNG logo files, design tokens in CSS, SCSS, Tailwind, and DTCG JSON, and a font sheet with embed code.
What it is useful for
Engineers and small teams who need a working brand identity without hiring a designer can run this against a written brief, then hand the tokens and logo files directly to a frontend project. It is also useful for restyling an existing site: give it a URL and it reads the current logo, type, and colours, then previews each set on your pages, with the option to keep the existing mark and refresh only the type and palette. Narrower tasks are supported too, for example producing only a type system for a newsletter, a palette to pair with an existing logo, or a critique of an identity you already have.
The worked examples in the README show what the output looks like in practice. For Fernhill Books, an Edinburgh bookshop described as "literate, unhurried, wry," the recommended set is a "manicule" mark built from the pointing hand readers drew in margins, Literata for both display and text, and a press-black palette with one rubric red. For Tessellate, an open-source data pipeline orchestrator, the recommended set is a Truchet tile logo (a tile that joins any neighbour however it is turned) paired with tabular figures, since the product surfaces run times and costs.
How engineers can use it
The documented install paths are the Claude Code plugin (/plugin marketplace add fatihaydost/brand-identity-skill then /plugin install brand-identity@brand-identity-skill) or a plain skill from the brand-identity.zip asset of the latest release, unzipped into ~/.claude/skills/, or via a symlink from a clone. Requirements are Python 3.10+, a Chromium-based browser, and ideally uv; running python3 skills/brand-identity/scripts/brand.py check reports any missing dependency.
Use is conversational. You ask Claude Code in plain words, for example "Logo, fonts and colours for a specialty coffee roaster in Lisbon." The skill asks one round of questions (brief, number of sets, languages, competitors), builds the sets, shows the comparison board, and stops for you to pick. A documented limitation: in claude.ai chat the sandbox blocks Google Fonts, so type measurement and rendering fail there, and the README directs users to Claude Code instead. A full run to the board is reported at about 40 agent turns and roughly 0.9M billed-input-equivalent tokens.
