Summary
Vorssaint is an open-source macOS menu bar application written in Swift that bundles a wide collection of small system utilities behind a single icon. It targets Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or newer and is released under the GPL-3.0 license. Engineers can pick the features they want and skip the rest.
What it is useful for
The project collects utilities that macOS users typically install one at a time. Documented features include:
- A per-app volume mixer that can boost audio past 100% without installing an audio driver
- A live system monitor showing CPU, GPU, memory, temperatures, battery health, and network traffic
- An app and window switcher with live previews, search, and display filters
- Window snapping, Dock previews, and modifier-drag gestures to move windows between displays
- Clipboard history, text snippets with date and clipboard variables, and a "Shelf" for staging files while dragging
- Screen recording with separate system-audio and microphone tracks, plus offline text recognition
- An uninstaller, a cache cleaner, and a Homebrew manager that works without opening a terminal
- A Command Bar for searching apps, windows, files, clipboard entries, and running conversions or calculations
For engineers, the codebase itself is also a reference: it uses AppKit and SwiftUI to implement menu bar apps, accessibility APIs, and per-app audio routing on macOS.
How engineers can use it
The README documents two install paths. Homebrew users can run brew install --cask vorssaint. Others can download a signed disk image from the releases page and drag the app into Applications.
To build from source:
git clone https://github.com/vorssaint/vorssaint-utils.git
cd vorssaint-utils
./build.sh --dev # build the Developer variant
./build.sh --dev --install # build, install, and launch
Only Xcode Command Line Tools are required.
In day-to-day work, an engineer might snap a browser next to a terminal with the window layout feature, boost a quiet video call without raising system volume, paste a regex from snippet history, or uninstall a dev tool with the built-in uninstaller. Cleanup is brew uninstall --cask vorssaint or ./Tools/uninstall.sh.
One documented limitation: only Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 14 Sonoma or newer are supported, so Intel hardware will not run it. The README also notes that official builds come only from the maintainer; forks can reuse the GPL-3.0 source but need their own name and icon under the separate trademark terms.
